As carroças da rua ronronam ∧tontonam ∧sonsonam ∧, sons separados, lentos,
de accordo, parece, com a minha
somnolencia. É ∧a hora do almoço mas fiquei
no escriptorio. O
dia é tepido e um pouco velado.
Nos ruidos ha, por qualquer razão,
que talvez seja a minha somnolencia,
a mesma coisa que ha no dia.

«As a detective story it is first rate in the third order. It is a good intelligent thriller.
The one outstanding feature is the Chinese detective, who is really picturesque.
The tread on the official police is ridiculously heavy: Captain Flannery is too much of a sub-Lestrade.
/ The mystery is fairly well kept back but, as usual in these stories, or this type of stories,
there is not absolute fairness to the reader. The story could easily have been devised with more of that fairness.
